Introduction

The Hackett Hill property offers a wide variety of habitats and attracts numerous bird species. Although some species may be present throughout the year, others are only "in residence" during certain seasons.

In 1995, a comprehensive list of birds likely to be found on the property was prepared. The list includes the specific habitats where these birds can be expected to locate, as well as information about their breeding habits

The list is given below. If a bird on the list was sighted/heard on the Hackett Hill property by one or more persons from Fall, 1999 - late Summer, 2000, an "x" appears next to its name.

The main list is followed by an Interesting Sightings section. Here, some of the more interesting birds which were observed are listed, as well as the time of year when each species was seen. In each case a photograph or illustration of the bird is included, as well as some general information about its appearance, habitat and behavior.

A third section titled Non-listed Birds gives the names of birds which have been seen during the above-mentioned time period, but were not included on the "Likely Birds List."
